Year 8-13 Lateral Flow Testing
Posted: 1/09/21
The Government has stated that all consenting secondary school students will take two lateral flow COVID-19 tests on school site upon their return in September.
Consenting students are not able to return to school until they receive a negative result from their first test. After the initial two tests in school, consenting students will then be provided with further rapid test kits to continue testing from home.
Government guidance requires consenting students to complete a lateral flow test on school site rather than at home before starting the Autumn term. This is because students will be supervised by trained staff members when completing their lateral flows at school and means we can be confident that the tests have been taken correctly.
Students will potentially have mixed with lots of other people during their summer holidays and it is essential that we identify any possible Covid-19 cases before term starts in order to protect all members of our community.
Students who have tested positive in the past 90 days
If your child has tested positive for Covid-19 with a PCR test in the past 90 days (on or since 5th June 2021), then they should not take part in our on-site lateral flow testing. If this is the case for your child, please email office@oaksparkhigh.org.uk including a screenshot of your child’s PCR result. Once 90 days have passed your child will be able to take part in the home rapid flow testing programme.
On the day of the test
On the day of their test, your child will need to enter the school site via the Monkey Puzzle Way entrance. They will then be directed through to the testing site in our Sports Hall. Students will undertake the test themselves but will be guided and supervised through the process by a member of staff.
Once your child has completed their lateral flow test, they will then leave school site and return home. Students are not required to wear school uniform but should bring their lanyard/ID badge to help the registration and identification process run smoothly.
Please do not send your child to school for their test if they are showing symptoms of Covid-19. The on-site lateral flow testing is only for asymptomatic students. If your child is symptomatic on the day of their test, please inform the school and book a PCR test for them using https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test.

Results
You will receive the result of your child’s test by text/email from the NHS later on the same day. If your child’s test result is negative, then they will be able to start school the following school day.
If your child tests positive, you must book them a PCR test to confirm this result (using https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test). Your child must self-isolate while they wait for the result of the PCR. Other members of your household should also self-isolate while you wait for the result, unless they:
- are fully vaccinated
- below the age of 18 years 6 month
- have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial
- are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons
Please email office@oaksparkhigh.org.uk with the result of your PCR test (whether positive or negative). Your child will not be able to return to school until we have seen this or until their 10 day isolation period is over.
Subsequent Tests
Consenting students will take their second lateral flow tests on school site during lesson time on either Wednesday 8th September or Thursday 9th September 2021. They will be brought down by their teachers to the Sports Hall and will then be able to return back to the classroom immediately upon completing their test. If your child’s test result from their second test is positive, you will be informed and asked to come and collect your child. Guidance states that students should not travel by public transport following a positive test.
