Homework

HOMEWORK AT OAKS PARK HIGH SCHOOL

Homework is a valuable element of learning, providing an opportunity to consolidate knowledge and skills developed in lessons and to prepare for future learning. Effective homework provides students with the chance to discover and explore more about their learning and to take ownership of it. It also develops valuable skills such as concentration, independence of thought, time management, research and academic rigour, so that all students leave Oaks Park High ready for further study and employment. Homework will always be set on Class Charts although some resources to support the tasks may be made available in Google Classroom.

Homework tasks will fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Preparation for Learning - pre teaching activities that students complete before the lesson to aid their understanding.
  • Application of Learning - tasks that refine knowledge and practise procedures learnt in the classroom.
  • Consolidation of Learning - tasks that focus on learning that has previously taken place, i.e. revision.
  • Extension of Learning - tasks that move learning beyond what has been achieved in the classroom.
  •
  • Homework Allocation

Students are set homework according to the timetable below. The timetable is differentiated according to the needs and requirements of students at different stages of their learning.

There may be occasions when teachers consolidate individual homework tasks to facilitate more sustained in-depth work by students.
