Pastoral Structure

Rationale

The pastoral system and the work of the year team plays an integral part in allowing students to both succeed academically and develop as a whole person during their time at Oaks Park High School. For each year team, the primary goal is to support the smooth journey of students through their school career, ensuring that each individual reaches their potential and secures a bright future.

Years 7 - 11

Each year group is divided into tutor groups. The tutor sees members of the tutor group every day for registration first thing. The tutor is very important as he or she will monitor the progress of each child and will look after his/her general well-being in the school. Students generally stay in the same group throughout their time in the school and wherever possible remain with the same tutor.

There is also a Year Leader who keeps an overview of the progress of the year group and who is also responsible for ensuring students meet the required standards of behaviour, attendance and dress. In addition, a member of the Leadership Team is allocated to take an especial interest in the performance and progress of each year group; they also advise the year team on various matters and support them in their work.

Parents/carers are encouraged to speak to their son/daughter’s tutor in the first instance, if there are any concerns.

Post 16

Post 16 students are similarly grouped in tutor groups and the Post 16 Team oversee their pastoral well-being as well as their academic progress in their chosen courses. Our Year 12 and 13 students will follow our newly designed tutoring programme that combines performance and progress related sessions, with the aspirational supportive platform of ‘Unifrog’. More information about the sixth form can be found under the Post 16 heading on the website.
