NEU Strike 27th April & 2nd May

A reminder that there are  two days of NEU industrial action taking place on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May.

  • Years 11 and 13 should attend on both days as usual.
  • Years 7,8,9 and Year 10 who are NOT on work experience placements should not attend and should study remotely at home
  • Years 10 on work experience should attend their work experience placement as usual.
  • Years 10 on work experience with departments at the school should only attend if they have been specifically invited.

If your son or daughter is in a category eligible for a place in school and you  have not completed the application form for a place, you must let us know urgently if a place is required at school, as we will not be expecting them.

Please email the office at office@oaksparkhigh.org.uk if you have any queries. For full information, see the original message from Mr Amin below:

The following information is for mainstream students, Horizon students will be contacted separately.

The NEU have announced two further days of Industrial strike action; next week on Thursday 27th April and the following week on Tuesday 2nd May.

The NEU have stated that they will support arrangements that provide the minimum level of teaching staff needed to allow year 11/13 to attend school for supervised revision activities or exam practice. Our NEU members are working with the school to ensure that education can continue to be provided for these year groups.

As with all the previous strikes that have taken place, we plan to minimise disruption and ensure vulnerable students and the children of key workers are still able to attend school in person.

On both above dates, students in Years 7, 8, 9, and 10 will be asked to study remotely at home.

They will be able to complete work that has been set on Classcharts, including any outstanding homework and are also able to access online learning via the remote learning page on the school website here https://www.oaksparkhigh.org.uk/3853/remote-learning-links

All students in Years 11 and 13 should attend school as normal on this day.  Arrangements will be made for lessons to take place as normal or supervised study sessions if needed.  Students should arrive for a slightly later start and on site at 8.40am for their first lesson at 8.50am.  There will not be a tutor time session on these dates.  Year 11 students will need to be in full school uniform as usual.

Students in Years 12 will also be able to attend any timetabled lessons with their usual teachers, if those staff are in school, or may come on the school site for independent study in the Post 16 area. Please note that some lessons for Year 12 may not take place depending on staffing availability.

Vulnerable students and the children of critical workers will also be able to attend school.  However, please note that the usual curriculum will not be followed for these students as many of their teachers may be absent. Students will work in classrooms on remote learning tasks as they would at home, but will be supervised by a member of staff. If your child falls into this category and you would like them to attend school on this day, please complete the Google form that has been sent out to you by the end of the day on Monday. The link to this is here.  Any student attending should come at the usual time and in full school uniform.

Parents of students who receive a free school meal and will not be in school on the above dates will be emailed a voucher on the day.

We appreciate that industrial action is disruptive and you may need to change your plans or working arrangements whilst this action is ongoing.

In the unlikely event that the strike action is called off, we will confirm this as soon as we can and in this eventuality the school will be open as usual to all students.   If you have any questions or concerns about the alternative arrangements outlined above, please contact the office by emailing office@oaksparkhigh.org.uk in the first instance.
