World Book Day in the LRC

We were delighted to welcome award-winning author Natalie Flynn to the school on World Book Day - Thursday March 5th. Natalie delivered workshops on reading and writing to students in Horizon and students in Years 9 and 10 throughout the day. It was a pleasure to have Natalie in the library and we hope many students were inspired and encouraged by Natalie's advice.
Mrs Berry, our librarian, ran a lunchtime book quiz on World Book Day which was hotly contested by a packed library of competitive students, ending with all student receiving a specially-made treat from local bakery Stennings - many thanks indeed to Mr Stenning for once again providing these to very appreciative students! We had two standout teams, with the winning students dropping only one and a half points in total - an amazing score!
We also ran a 'Guess The Teacher Reading' Competition with twenty members of staff taking part for students to try to guess the teacher behind the book. Students loved trying to guess who was who!
Reading for pleasure and relaxation is something we encourage in all our students and we work hard to get in a wide selection of books to interest and excite our students. Please do encourage your child to read widely and to borrow books from the school library - Mrs Berry is on hand to offer recommendations and advice for their next read.
